Step by Step: The Courage to Reveal Yourself to the World

Ivan was an investment banker on Wall Street. He had lived outside of Bulgaria for more than 25 years. He returned, affected by the story of a boy, who likes boys. The boy's parents took him to a psychologist so that he could be "cured".

In his search for a solution he met the 18-year-old Nikola - a boy who likes boys.

"Ivan was the one who reached out to us. I graduated from the American College in Sofia where we created a club with similar goals - to help LGBT kids. It was the first of its kind in Bulgaria", says Nikola.

But starting such a club, especially in Bulgaria, turned out to be a hard task. There are a lot of similar stories, but they remain untold, because it takes courage for someone to tell them and show their face. This is Ivan's and Single Step's mission.
